New Sony Ericsson CCR80 Universal Micro-SD SDHC to USB Mobile Memory Card Reader
Ridiculously high maximum power rating
Got this free with a Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro phone.
This device announces to the thing it plugs into that it requires up to 500mA. In case you don't know, that's the absolute maximum current that USB can supply - it's enough to power things with motors and charge device batteries. A MicroSD card itself needs at most about 100mA. There is no way this device really needs that kind of current draw, it's just sloppy design. I've seen comparable SD adapters declare a max of 250mA.
This will most likely cause no problem if you're plugging this into a traditional PC, but what this means is if you plug it into a USB On-The-Go device like a media player, phone, or tablet it will not work because of its stated unnecessarily high power consumption. So fine for PC only use, but avoid if you want it to 'just work' everywhere.

Too warm and juicey.
It works well enough but with two caveats. First, and foremost, this device requires a lot of usb juice to run. I tried it in a (Homer Simpsons' USB hub) with a wireless keyboard adapter in situ and just kept getting error ring noises from Win7. Once I removed the k/b adapter Win7 found the device ok and transferred data. Second, it made my usb hub get a bit too toasty for my liking, so I opted to stick it in a lone usb socket to stop the risk of premature aging or cooking the micro memory card.
Win7 has a habit of asking to scan and fix micro cards but it's usually unnecessary and best to opt for the 'continue' and not scan/fix option as Win7 can destroy the structure that is needed by phones/tablets etc. which can be so for formatting too. There is a driver dl available for sdhc etc. cards on the MS website specific to formats for micro cards - assuming you have a genuine MS copy as it requires validation.

Quality Product
When I ordered my new Sony Ericson CCR80 Universal Micro-SD SDHC to USB Mobile Memory Card Reader I was not expecting it to be of the quality it turned out to be.
This is well designed product and feels like a quality product. I was so impressed that I ordered 2 more to have as a spare.
