Gembird 3.5 inch External USB Disk Drive
Vista or not Vista compatiable
I purhased another drive like this off of Amazon and it said it was Vista compatiable. It opened a couple of my old files and then I started to have problems with it.
This one I plugged in. Waiting for the software to install and then put in a disc that had not worked on the other one. I was thrilled when I was able to open the file and read the information. Some of the files were from my word processor from the late nineties. While others were from my Tiny laptop which now as a frozen hard drive (windows XP). Some of the information I had not seen in years and it made me wonder did I really do that.
A small piece of equipment which does what it says it does. I would recommend this to anyone.
Easy to use and install and it does what it says it does. You can't say fairer than that.

Vista compatible
I was looking for an usb floppy disk drive that works with Vista. Some honest and straightforward manufacturers announce that their product is not compatible, and that they do not intend to change that. Others just say nothing. I found this drive, described as being compatible. The review of G. Kneller removed some of the doubts I still had. Not all, because there are several Vista - hardware combinations with different compatibility behaviour. Anyway I purchased it and just plugged it in. It was immediately recognized by Windows, no driver installation needed. I tried a floppy that was written 20 years ago. The files were copied to my hard drive without any problem. I had lots of old disks to copy. Some of them are damaged. Still I noticed less read errors than with my previous internal fdd.
Let me give you the exact information: I have a Vista x86 version running on a 64-bit computer.
Suggestion: perhaps the vendor should explicitly mention the (in)compatibility with Vista...

Saviour
Faced with a floppy disc containing some important information, we had a problem with no facility to open it.
Within minutes we found exactly what we were looking for on Amazon, an external USB floppy drive. Within a
couple of days the package arrived, plugged in and file opened within minutes. Relief all round.
